Which Shutter Release Cable For 5D MkII?

Could anyone confirm exactly which remote shutter release cable (non-Canon type) works with the 5D MkII? There is the most confusing and contradictory jumble of inconclusive information out there, which is ridiculous.

A lot of the eBay listings miss the 5D MkII off the compatibility list when they list a remote shutter release, but others include it on the list.

I have read that the RS80N3 works with the 5D MkII, which implies that my present release (an ADIDT M1 that I use with my 20D and 30D) should work with a 5D MkII - although that type often (but not always) has the 5D MkII missed off the compatibility list.

I can use an RS80N3 with my 30D, so surely my ADIDT M1 (which is an RS80N3 alternative) should work too - but of course that isn't included on their compatibility list either!

If anyone could enlighten me I would be grateful.

And if that wasn't confusing enough, this remote release that lists the 5D and 5D MkII in the compatibility list clearly shows a different plug on the end from what is on my remote release, which is also mentioned in the list:

Then there's this one that mentions that it's the same as an RS-80N3, and shows the same plug as mine, but leaves the 5D MkII off the compatibility list in complete contradiction to what is stated and implied elsewhere:

I think I have it worked out now. Just in case it turns out that I'm not the only person in the world who has been trying to find this out, the 5D MkII has the N3 plug, which is this one:

The corresponding socket is used on many of the Canon bodies, including 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, 1D and 1Ds (all versions), 5D and as I have just mentioned, the 5D MkII.

I therefore conclude that any RS-80N3-type remote shutter release will work with the 5D MkII. If that's not the case I'll be back on here complaining about it once I've given it a go.

You are correct about the connector:

"Remote control with N3-type terminal. (Wireless remote controller RC-1/RC-5 can also be used.)"

The thing that caused the initial doubt was that a lot of people were leaving the 5D MkII off the compatibility list, which made me think that maybe Canon had designed an annoying incompatibility into the MkII.

Thanks a lot for going through the research on this, Mike. I just managed to secure a remote on eBay for about £3.50, including postage. I wanted to give Bulb exposures a whirl with my ND110 but with a non-cabled shutter I doubted it'd work. And I don't trust myself to exposure directly without shake.

In addition to the N3 remote, you can also use a RC-1 Infrared wireless remote on the 5D Mk II. The IR remote also has the ability to start/stop video. No other remote can operate the video.
