I'm having this problem where I connect the camera via its usb cable to the computer (2ghz g5), then open up file viewer and turn the camera on. The camera's icon shows up, but if I click it, I get a diaolg saying, "cannot connect to camera. check connection, and try again." Occasionally it works, but usually only after a myriad of attempts that include stuff like powering up after creating directories, etc. Obviously, shouldn't matter. Any advice? Any similar problems?

Thanks.

Get a card reader. They don't cost much for a good one. I have a Sandisk Image Mate 8 in 1 was about $25. Now I can download any card to any computer. I can cut (not copy) into any file I like. And, I know if I got all the pix or not. Also faster in many cases to use a card reader.

Since it's intermittent it's hard to say. With a G5 are you using iPhoto? If not, why? You should have no troubles with jpegs. but not sure how the download of .CR2 files would go there. I have a G4 and download all the jpegs into iPhoto. If I'm shooting RAW I use a card reader and download those to a separate folder on the desktop.

See page M-12 in the Eos 20D manual about communication protocol. RAW files have to be downloaded via card reader.

I'd love to try and help, but I only use the card reader.

Good luck though.....

check your camera

on the pro1 when i plug it in through USB you have to click PC on the cameras LCD screen try doing that before you try to retrieve them

My 20D had problems connecting to my laptop via USB also. I said screw it and bought a card reader. Quick and painless transfers now.

Get a card reader. You're taking a chance on losing your pics by connecting directly to the computer.

Thanks for all these responses. I guess I knew I could solve the problem that way, I just wondered what the problem actually was...
