I currently have an Epson R300 Printer which im unhappy with because of ink cost and the speed, and the tendancy to put a black smear along the side of many photos regardless of how many times I have taken it to the service center to replace http://www.forums3d.com/Smileys/CPU3D/mad.gif

anyone know which one of these would be a better choice, both have their merits

The iP5000 is a 9600x2400dpi 1pl High resoloution printer, however the ip8500 has a 8-ink ChromaPLUS photo system the iP8500 has a faster print rate it appears althought I dont trust the figures. as far as economy is concerned, even though the ip8500 has 8 inks I should imagen they would last the same amount of time as its the ammount of ink used on the paper rather than how many cartridges you have to replace.

The canon website allows you to try before you buy sort of thing that requires registration and they send you a free printout of a photo that you submit on a printer of your choice. Im going to see if they will allow me to have a printout of both printers to compare.

I heard the iP4000 is a better printer than the iP5000.... just something to consider..
