Another bumper crop of great photos. Great work everyone and thanks for taking the time to enter the contest :D

I've tried to simplify things somewhat by having only two threads. Let me know if you think this is an improvement. I'm working hard to find a better method of voting and hope to have it in place for the close of the next contest.

VOTING:

Due to the large number of photos, there are two voting threads, however please vote for one photo only.
If you want to vote for photos 19-36, you can do so in this poll.
Click here to vote for photos 1-18. (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=74154)
Please feel free to make constructive comments to help the photographers improve on their work for next time.
Voting last for 7 days.
RESULTS:

As before there will 1st, 2nd and 3rd place positions. This will be based on the total number of votes that the photo has received.
No prizes, sorry
I thought that it would be nice to announce the names (aliases) of the people who win. Send me a PM if you don't want your name to be announced.
All the photos can be viewed here (http://canondigitalphotographycontests.fotopic.net/)

I might as well start off the voting discussion. It was really tough to pick my favourite out of the photos. In fact, I kept changing my shortlist - let alone the final one!!

In the end there were four that I thought stood out from the rest.
Blinded by the light
Nocturnal green
Enlightnment
Nervous lights

I felt that the first three combined the use of light with an effective title to make the photo say more to me then a cursory examination might show. In the end I went for Blinded by the light becuase it just captured my imagination. It reminds me of a Stephen King novel or something.

Who's next? :D

Hmm...

From the title of the contest, I decided that my vote would go to the photo which had been improved the most by unusual lighting. "Blinded by the light" is a cool photo, and the light helped, but I think it would have been decent even without the glare from the stage. Same holds for "Nocturnal Lights."
Some others were pretty, but the light seemed typical for a scene of their type. At least one other (one of my own) was entirely dependent on lighting conditions, but didn't actually come out all that great, so cool effect, but no vote.

My short list, in alpha order, is:
Green Peanuts
Nocturnal Lights
Nervous Lights
Spark
Wind

Strict application of my principle says that if the room lights had been on for "Nervous Lights" it would have looked like someone was just checking to see if they had batteries. As it is, it is a beautiful, perplexing image and it gets my nod.

"Blinded, Nocturnal, Streetlight, and Cistern" really drew me in the most (besides my own entry, which shall remain nameless and without comment or vote from me :D). I liked "Nervous" but was disappointed with the composition, and to be completely honest, "Blinding," not to be confused with "Blinded," just looks like someone taking a picture of themself in the mirror. Both great lighting effects though.

In the end, I had a very difficult time deciding, but think I will vote for "Streetlight" because it has excellent artistic composition, doesn't look staged, and best captured my imagination and curiosity.

All entries were great - I love these contests! Nice job everyone!

I'm guessing this is done as today is 7 days after voting opened. I'll go as far as to suggest midnight GMT on the 24th was the official close and that any further votes don't count. Hopefully nobody feels that is too presumptous of me in Big_Bs absence.

And a big congratulations go to the owner of photo 5 with a sizeable win. Would you care to step forward and perhaps share with us some of the thought that went into creating your image?

I was photo number 11 "A crucifix for fossil fuels" and placed (a fairly distant) second.

I can come forward and say #35 and 36 were mine.

Good to see such even voting overall. And such a nice nocturnal GREEN. :)
Congrats on that photographer.

36 is pretty cool. I just like the reversal of your normal expectations of stained glass windows. Nice work.

Thanks to CitizenSmith for finishing off the contest (and congratulations for coming second).

Of course its all for fun, but in the words of Nicolas Parsons, 'here are the scores anyway':
1st - latigid soe
2nd - Mr Smith
3rd - kawter

Well done everyone :D
Oh, and a quick reminder that there will be short delay between this contest and the next to allow for voting in the POTN Landscape and Cityscape contest. You still have a day or so to enter if you wish (see my sig for link).
