I guess I missed this the first time around. Great shot! 4.5 hours really must help on this target, mine looked horrible!

This is an amazing shot. What creates the perfect "+" through the brighter stars?

The diffraction pattern is created by the support structure at the end of a newtonian telescope. It has 4 metal support bars holding a small mirror at the end of the scope.

I assume he uses a newtonian.

I don't think Cat has a Newt. There are ways to add the spikes though. I sometimes used a mask over my refractor, with two thin bits of thread in a "+" shape taped over the front. Either that or Noel Carboni's astro-tools for Photoshop has an option to add spikes to stars. I never found it worked that well for me though.

Correct dude, I use refractors and the spikes are after processing with Noels

Ah, a bit of artistic license in play here. Maybe you should get a newt ;)

Nice work mate. It looks a little over-processed to the point that it is starting to take on a slightly "painted" look.

You have captured a lot of very good data there, well done. Don't throw it all away now. Try to keep the colours as natural as you can and remember, "Gas isn't sharp!"

Nice work!

Baz.

lol :) It would have to be a 250mm+ newt to make it worth while over my ED120
