Hi all,
I'm on vacation in Latvia right now, and been trying to experiment with star trail photography for the first time cause the stars out here are simply gorgeous. After the first couple of nights of unsuccessful shots I realized i needed a shutter release. So the other night i tried a 1 hr long exposure at F5.6 ISO 100. I framed the shot with a house at the bottom of the frame with it's lights still on. I know now I should have turned off the house lights after about 5 mins (im guessing) cause the light bled into the rest of the photo like crazy. The star trails however came out nice. My question is how do I reduce the noise. I noticed the picture was quite grainy even though I was using ISO 100. My equpiment is not spectacular but I expected better performance than this (im using a 40D and a tamron XR DiII 17-55 lens). I can't think of any reason why it would be so noisy other than the fact that there was a lot of light pollution and that the lens was quite dewed up when I closed the shutter. Any tips on remedying this problem. I have another chance on Tuesday to attempt a shot, so I wanna make sure I get it right.
