I am thinking to buy a tele lense and a macro lense for my Canon 20D <i already got 17-85mm>. But i could not make up my mind to choose what lenses to buy. I considered to a Canon tele lense 70-200mm L f/4 and a canon macro ef 100mm f/2.8 or ef-S 60mm f/2.8. With budget of about under £1000, can you help me to make the best choice to get a tele and a macro lense? I do not care whether they are prime or zoom lenses. I am also very happy if you can give me advices where to get those lenses at best price? <Everything in London is such expensive>. Thanks.

For US$1100 or so you should be able to get the 70-200 F4L and the 100mm F2.8 macro, both are excellent lenses :)

As of today, 1000 UK Pounds is equal to 1832.19 USD. You can get a lot for that much, even if it means buying from the states and paying for shipping.

For example, at B&H Photo in New York: (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/)

100mm f/2.8 - $469.00 US
70-200 f/4L - $579.00 US

Total: $1048 US

Obviously you have to add taxes and such. But that should still come in way under your budget.

Welcome to Moscow, Russia. For 1700$ you can get factory sealed 70-200 f/2.8L plus 100 f/2.8.
I think it's a cheapest place in europe.

Thanks Cdhender, Thanks Eugenes. I found those lenses are at very good price at B&H. Moscow, USD1700, this must be a good price, but seem to be too far to get there. I am going to buy EF 100mm and EF 70-200mm f/4 soon. I am also saving money for a 300mm or a 400mm prime lense of Canon. Hope to get all soon. :D

Hoangtrung,

you might check out www.canonextrapromotion.com
If you haven't already received your rebate booklet, you can order it there.

With the rebate booklet, you can get a GBP 70 cashback on the 70-200/4.0 if you buy it through a licensed reseller.

If you want to have further informations on which lenses to get, you might tell us first what you like to shoot most.

Best regards,
Andy

Woah, I feel so bad for you! For that price you could practically get the 100-400L and the 100mm f/2.8 macro in the US...... Which, may be something you want to consider. Don't bother with the 70-200mm f/2.8 though. Not really needed the image quality between the two is said to be exact with no noticable differences. f/2.8 isn't necessary indoors either. Just crank up the ISO and use noise reduction software. So, if your going to go the 70-200 route, definately go with the f/4 for starters. Or f/2.8 IS cause that would be worth it...... far superior lens. I had the 100mm f/2.8 macro for a few days and it was supurb! Very sharp once you get the hang of it. Great walk around lens too. And of course it's a prime... don't settle for anything less than that macro lens!

And yea, as someone else mentioned, get it US from www.bhphoto.com and pay the taxes and stuff. couldn't possibly add up to as much as it would be to purchase it in your country.

Either that or come visit us in the USA! Go to New York and visit bhphoto in person. :-) Then you'll have some great lenses and far cheaper prices, and a great number of sights to photograph. :-) Hahaha, technically you could pay for the trip with the savings on the lenses! haha

Well, everyone is recommending what to buy and where but you haven't said what you want the zoom for and whether you will be hand holding or using a tripod ... what you want it for and how you'll use it determines the likely length you will need and if you may need IS/OS more than not.

The Macro is easier: I would go for the Canon 100mm, the Sigma 105mm or the Tamron 90mm in that order, and depending on budget remaining after buying the zoom.

There are places in the Uk to buy stuff cheaper, but usually online ... unless you want to try haggling on Tottenham Court Road, in which case you need to know the best price online to have any chance.

Just say what you want the lenses for and you will get some more useful suggestions I think. AND are you talking US $'s or UK £'s ... seems we are exchanging currency all over the place here.

If you're buying from the States try and get the package shipped by FedEx as I have found that UPS declare everything to customs, where as I have yet to be charged duty on FedEx shipments.... Then again perhaps I've been fortunate so far ;)!

Check out 7dayshop.com. Both will set you back less than £750 including UK VAT new.

Alternatively, hunt two mint ones down second hand. I got my 70-200mm f4 L mint, boxed with hood and pouch for £306 incl. P&P two months ago and my 100mm Macro USM, mint, boxed with circular polariser for £257 incl. P&P last month, nearly £200 saved on the new price.

I wouldn't go for any other given your budget, except maybe the Sigma 150mm Macro if your budget allows.

Andythaler, RbrtPLeoSenytik, Condyk, Timm, Mdr, thanks all of you for your advices. I always bring my tripod whenever going out with my camera , so IS or not seem not to be a matter. I've already got my choice to buy a canon 70-200 f/4; canon 100 f/2.8. I am going to buy those soon after finishing my examination. I gonna spend all of my time with those lenses and have no time to prepare for exams if i got those now:lol: . Again, thanks all of your advices.
