I saw the sign and I thought this might make it stand out a bit.

I think the first picture looks much better. More colorful.

The idea was to show the sanctuary arrow pointing the way from a dark and cold world to an area full of warmth and color.
Oh well, I thought it would carry the idea, but I guess it is back to the crawing board.

Not so quick, I like the second, it is simple and clever.

What can I say, I had thought that it would be obvious... guess my mind doesn't work like other folks... (Is that what my grandma meant when she said, "Boy, you just ain't right... "?? ) :D

Those were my thoughts exactly. Nice job!

Neither. Nothing is really compelling in either. But number 2 will make the sign stand out more.

I agree the 1. image is the most interesting.
if you want to play with your color i would think that if you desaturate the picture maby 50% in all colors exept green and yellow and burn the corners slightly. you will get a better result.
or you could go BW that would allso be nice i think.

Vetto would you mind if I played with this image in PS? My take is if the sign is the focal point of the image, I would probably create some more DOF.

Why not, most of the folks completely missed the point I was hoping to make (My fault) so feel free to do whatever you want to make it better.

Just a quick and dirty DOF adjustment and you get this here. I think the colours are fantastic in this image. http://home.cogeco.ca/%7Emrichardson122/images/Sanctuary_Color.jpg

Oh and I don't think this is necessarily "better" just a different point of view.

personally, I like the B&W fade to color better than the adjustment of DOF and all color.
burning the highlights approx 50%, but just the far right edge. I stopped my eye from moving to the right of the sign.
I hope I didnt committ a MAJOR faux-pa. If I did, please forgive. I am but a newbie thee fair land.

Well personally I love the second one. :) And no worries, I could tell what you were going for with it and I think it works well for this shot.

I really like the second one...I think it is well done...Can you explain your steps on how you did this...
I was waiting for someone to photoshop the opposite on you and give a dark and gloomy feeling to the sanctuary...
Cheers,
