I have the same combo, but you've used a different lens hood. From the 24-70? I know I've heard to do the same, as the 1.6x crop factor on 20D, doesn't do anything with existing 17-40.

A 20D and a 17-40L ! What lens hood did you get with the 17-40 ? The one on your photo doesn't look like the standard lens hood that you get with the lens.

I used the lens hood for the EF 24mm f/1.4L prime, EW-83DII. I had read that it would fit the 17-40L and with the narrower field of view of the 20D it wouldn't be picked up by the camera. A few test shots last night seemed to work fine!

The hood looks the same as the one I got when I bought the 17-40. I can't see any difference.

The hood looks the same as the one I got when I bought the 17-40. I can't see any difference.

It is quite a bit narrower than the standard hood for the 17-40 that I received! I can reverse this hood and store it in my bag unlike the standard hood!

Mine also arrived this week, can not wait to get out and use it this weekend.

Weather and work have not allowed any time so far this week.
