Hi all,
I have been asked to shoot a company golf tourney in Sep (1st Friday). Would like some advice from all you out there. Would like to know if it is best to pick one hole or roam the course? My set up hopefully will be a 40D with a 20D backup, lens will be a 70-200 f4, 17-40 f4 and I hope to have a 35-350 3.5-5.6. Flash if needed, 430 EX II & 580EX II.
The event will be held in South Texas, harsh mid day sun. Plan to shot av and m, iso at 200 to 800. Would greatly appricate any and all help with this. Thanks in advance for your thoughts, comments and assist.

Boy Peter, I think the first thing I'd look for was a teebox shaded by some trees if possible. Look in sports section for some shots folks have posted. Someone posted some H.S. golf shots that were superb. Of course, the kids play late afternoon, too.
Maybe some on-camera fill flash might allow you to darken the BGs and illuminate the players a bit? Maybe I should try that!

Thanks Dave for your thoughts. I saw the HS golf shots and they are really nice. I was also thinking of sticking to one tee with some good background and shade. I have been thinking of having the flash mounted for fill. Thanks for taking the time and passing along your thoughts.

Like mentioned before find a tee box that has nice back grounds, with midday sun you will also want to shoot from a low position to get under the visors golfers wear, I would not advise shooting with flash, unless you need it for fill on a group shot, but not during action. Shoot with the longest focal length you have, I shoot tee shots with a 400, this will also keep you further from the golfer and from harms way. Good luck have fun and stay hydrated.

Thanks very much for your thoughts, I hope to get a chance to check out the course before the event and talk with the course pro on do's and dont's. The way it has been in south Texas the past couple of months I plan on keeping water always by my side and in me. Again my thanks for your help.
