I'm sure this has been discussed before, but i'm not sure where to look. When I upload video files from my 5d Mark ii, and try to edit them in premiere pro cs4, when I play them with premiere, the playback is very choppy and horrible. Any idea's or suggestions on what to do for that? And if there is a fix for it, is there something that is free?

Thank you!

Is this after you've rendered the finished video?

no, when I transfer the files from my camera to comp, and then open them with premiere, I have problems playing the original file....the streaming is all funky

Hi. Unfortunately CS3/4 does this. It is a known problem. The problem can be worse if your machine is not too powerful and bit short of Ram. I found that getting a Pro copy of Quicktime and installing gives CS3/4 a better codec (in my opinion). When you render the footage you will find things much smoother. I just live with the glitchy edit as I know the final render will be smooth.

Look at the hardware specs. They require a fairly new fairly beefy PC to be able to render HD footage. If you are running anything older then a year old then odds are you are not at the specs to run CS4. It sucks since they want so much processing to run it now.

Oh its a very beefy computer, we built it 1 month ago specifically for editing photo's and video....its loaded. My husband read once that there is a plug-in that you guy use that will help with the streaming. I dunno ???

Its not streaming that is the issue, its previewing and that is a lot of CPU/Memory load.

One thing you can look at doing if this was built straight for editing is to disconnect the system from the internet then turn off any Anti-Virus programs and that might help out some. Just turn them back on before connecting to any network.
