Ars Technica (http://arstechnica.com/apple/reviews/2009/08/mac-os-x-10-6.ars) has an excellent review of 10.6. Beware it is 20+ pages long, but very informative. There is no major real need to force the 64 bit kernel on booting.
SL will run 64 bit applications in 64 bit mode,32 bit applications in 32 bit mode. The best example of this is the System Preferences application which will restart depending on which preference you run. For example my Wacom preferences panel will cause System Preferences to restart and run in 32 bit mode. "(32-bit) appears in the title bar. It will switch back to 64 bit when needed.

this was the easiest "No Frills" upgrade I have ever done!! the system feels great! im loving it so far, it also gave me 10 gb of space :) Im on an old machine so i wont comment on new fantastic speeds in CS4 or aperture

I don't think Aperture has benefited. I would urge all to try the text replacement preference under system preferences>language and text>text. Its like a spell checker but if you add commonly used shortcuts such as "cmd" can become "Command" automatically.

Why would you have to mobile me?
I think its Intel only, check the requirements on apple's website.

Lightroom Killer Tips (http://www.lightroomkillertips.com/2009/snow-leopard-for-lightroom-and-photoshop/) has posted some issues and other information regarding Snow Leopard and Lightroom, plus some other stuff. Worth a read if you're a Lightroom user.

My MacBook has been updated with SL with no problems other than the loss of the Spyder monitor profile which was easily fixed. So far everything looks real good and the upgrade was a snap.

man i did a mistake just updated my MacBook as well to Snowleopard. this is what i sent to apple thi morning:
Since upgrading to Snowleopard my batter does not work, before the upgrade it was working the last time for atleast 3 hours. I bought the Macbook for my camera about a year ago (14 months). I have 3 other macs but wanted a portable for my on location photography.
The machine has only been used like 2 a month or once a month. so the drain is minimal. its like new condition all of it.... However now it does not work as I cant bring it on location to download photos from camera...
Please let me know of a fix to sort out the battery as it is new. It has not been drained 10 times in a year.

Snow Leo is working fine on our MacBook (2 ghz Core 2 Duo GMA950). Have you tried turning off the computer, then removing the battery for a minute or so, then reinstalling? If that doesn't work, can you boot the computer if it's connected to an AC source?

anything new to report? I'm about to upgrade to 10.6 but want to be sure everything is going to run flawlessly before I do.
Also, does Lightroom get any increase in performance after the upgrade?

I've only used Lightroom 2 and 3 beta to test them out and I cannot see any difference in speed on my MBP or Mac Pro - they're about the same IME. Aperture 2 did see a little boost but Photoshop CS4 looks about the same. My biggest issue is with programs that should have been updated to 64 bit but the developers were too lazy to do so while Leopard was out. Some programs that did not work at all are now starting to come around. One program I used a lot was Handbreak and now they are compatible again - they even went to 64 bit.
My advice would be to start downloading all your software (and updates) to an external drive, make sure they are SL tested and read up on the newest updates to make sure the major issues have been dealt with.
SL does have some speed increases, but Leopard was already pretty fast. The bloat (there wasn't much really) is gone and a few things changed location. My biggest love is with Exchange support. As an enterprise user in a large network, Microsoft back office support was a key area that required me to constantly depend on VMWare and XP - now I rarely have to switch over. Active Directory and Open Directory are now almost seamless (almost).

hi guys, I have a question.
Apple stopped supporting photographers? As they support only ATI graphic cards from now on because of 3dvision 6 monitors (videographers). And 5770 ati model is not the best buy..
But adobe supports cuda Nvidia only.
I was considering to buy a mac pro, but unfortunately I think I will go for a server pc instead.

No, they still support photographers.
And 5770 ati model is not the best buy..After the failure of so many NVidia gpus because of manufacturing flaws, why on earth would you make such a statement?
But adobe supports cuda Nvidia only. That's because Adobe's software engineers are either incompetent or lazy. ATI's FireStream works just fine. Photoshop doesn't much use Open CL anyway, so why bother with such a minor issue? If you want to see what good programming does, try Pixelmator. It blows PSCS5 out of the water in terms of speed - on both NVidia or ATI gpus.
I was considering to buy a mac pro, but unfortunately I think I will go for a server pc instead.Have fun with it.
