Fame is such a fleeting thing. I just ran it on Google, and you came in 9th. I then did an advanced search for exactly the phrase, "Eric Cotter," and you showed up about halfway down page number 2
BTW, my best friend from high school is named Cotter (45 years ago).

I just checked, I'm still number 1, but now also number 2.
Using my real name (Marcus Christian) and not by netname.
I actually posted about this as well myself when I noticed it. It turns out there are a bunch of us that are at the top of the google ladder. Some folks with the more unusual names get loads of returns.

Congrats. My name is too common, and I'm probably on the 541st page or something..
My airliners.net photos have me linked on 7th though. :)

Well, I suppose it helps to have an unusual (or even unique) name like mine. But oddly, having an ancient Web presence helps even more. Back when the Web was young, lots of people linked to a few handy pages I put up. As a result, I'm consistently the top hit on a number of searches, including at least three one-word and many two-word ones, even for very new pages.
I have to confess that it's convenient. Instead of telling people a complicated URL, I can tell them to Google for "adventures in Karlsruhe" and be confident that they'll find me.
