Just thought I'd share a recent discovery. The very reasonably priced grid for the Interfit 15.5" beauty dish (http://www.fotosense.co.uk/interfit-int311-honeycomb-40cm-for-rf4999-beauty-dish.html) fits the Elinchrom Maxi-Spot and Maxi-Lite reflectors perfectly with no modification. The above reflectors don't have a lip but the grid has two sprung metal strips that hold it firmly in place.
With the grid and a small deflector in place, the reflectors become incredible beauty dishes. They obviously have the same diameter as the interfit dish the grid is designed for, but they are three times as deep with shinier surfaces producing a very directional output.
FYI, these reflectors are also two of the few Elinchrom reflectors that don't have the mount built-in. It is riveted on seperately which means you could easily remove it and convert the reflector to fit another brand if you wanted.

Hermes,
Interesting. Could you possibly post pics to illustrate the illumination with and without the grid? If I understand correctly, the maxi spot/lite gives a good efficiency and is ideal outdoors.
Thanks!!

Great Find Hermes. I may just grab a MaxiLite and one of those grids.

OK, a simple couple of pics to show the difference between the maxi-lite with and without the grid. Taken from the same position. This was without a central deflector as I don't have one here, but the overall spread isn't hugely different without one just the distribution and the size of the hot spot.

To answer Roan's question, yes these reflectors are incredibly efficient. the maxi-spot in particular focusses the light so well that the guys at the flash centre managed to accidentally melt a huge hole in the side of a rotalux softbox from meters away with a maxispot and a standard modelling light during a trade show. You could easily do video lighting with these things and modelling lamps.

Very impressive Hermes.

I don't want to clutter the new thread that found this old one. But whoa man... that's a great find. Big time. Good work!

I'm holding off on additional reflectors or beauty dishes until the Kacey 45" and case is available. :D

Quick update...I'm sad to inform everyone that I was NOT able to get the interfit grid to fit, even with crushing a couple rows of honeycomb. Not sure if they changed their construction/size, but I wasn't able to get it into either the maxilite or the maxispot. It's close....but no cigar.
I've since ordered the same grid that mumbles got from honeycomb grids. Looking forward to it!

Jeff, you should be all set. I explained the issue i had with mine, he simply removed some tabs and you should have the perfect fitting one now.

Very interested in this, could you post a photo showing what you did to make it fit?

If you're asking Hermes then you might want to send him a PM. He's been really busy and hardly ever on the forums these days.
