I bought a couple of CF cards from B&H the other day. The package arrived the other day but I didn't open it till now. This is what I found after opening the box:

The UPS box had no damage or signs of mishandling. The actual CF card seems to be fine since it came inside the hard plastic case. Someone must have pretty large huevos to actually ship a product like that.
So back to the topic? Should I send it back? It'd be more of a principle thing than returning a defective product. I'm going to at least send off an email with pictures attached asking them to please not do the same with my 70-200mm f/4L. :-|

The email thing sounds the best. CF cards are very *very* sturdy. That said, however sturdy anything is, that's an awful condition to recieve anything in. Do send them an angry email, making sure this sorta thing doesn't happen again.

If you feel like spending the money and waiting for a replacement then go ahead and send it back. They most likely will not really care if you send it back.
As long as the card works, and the plastic case it was in is not damaged, I would keep it and send the images to B&H if it make you feel better.

I'm just a bit ticked off by the fact that someone willingly shipped that to me. I'll just send an email with the pictures.
I'm still gonna be afraid about ordering my first L lens from them. :(

Having ordered from B&H often, and judging by many threads in this forum so have others, this is an not the normal way they do things.
I have lens from them that went through Canada Customs as well as the shipping without incident.
Their return and shipping policies are very generous, and their customer serivce is really good (comparatively).
Give'em hell and send the pictures of the equipment and the shipping container, ask what they want to do. Personally, I would have a trust issue with any electronics handled that way. Visually may be fine, and initially may be fine, but down the road:confused: .
They are a good shop, give them an opportunity to react to the situation and see what they will do for you.
ps. Working in customer service, high tech, I would strongly suggest a polite start, showing the pictures and requesting input, before escalating the "strength" of your demands.
Good luck

My 20D box had a crumpled corner which worried me a bit, but everything works fine. (it was the kit so was really just the "outside" box. The box will go away in a bit anyway. :)
No worries.

I waited a bit. I cooled down and then just sent an email letting them know that my package arrive like that.
I made sure I didn't sound threatening in any way. I'm glad I waited because I might not have sent that same email at the time I was posting this thread.

That is a pretty bad job on B&H's part. Yes, you could send it back and get a new one with a good box (which you're going to throw away anyhow). Or you could send them an email (like you did) and perhaps get something in return, like free shipping on your next order or something like that.
