Anyone familiar with potential customs/visa/permit requirements?
I'm a Canadian citizen with a passport, working for myself.
I'm travelling to the U.S. by car to shoot for one day, with a good amount of gear for a paid job.
I simply got lost digging through all the info on the web! Couldn't find a straight answer that applied to my situation.
If anyone has any info, that'd be greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure about that but I would make sure your insurance covers shooting in the US.

Last I heard, you can come earn money here, but if I or any my colleagues show up at your border with pro equipment, we have some hoops to jump through to prove we aren't going to take away a job from a Canadian.
Welcome to the US.

I'm pretty sure you need a work visa. I know when I traveled to Toronto for meetings at our local office, the custom guys always grilled me to make sure I didn;t come into the country to work for clients - it was ALWAYS hell to go through customs in Toronto. I would imagine that the US has the same requirements.

I looked at the NAFTA requirements, photography is not one of the specified professions. I still suspect if you show up at the US border with your passport and a smile, you'll have the same difficulties as if you were going to see the other side of Niagra Falls.

You'll also want a Y38 card to make coming back to canada easier. Otherwise, they might charge you duties and tax for all your gear.

Thanks for all the replies, everyone.
Yeah, looks like I'd better get that Y38 card at very least.
I guess I'll keep digging though!
