Having bought my canon (http://www.photographyblog.com/forums/) a95 at a great price from pixmania I was dissappointed to discover that a pukka canon mains adapter was going to cost me up to £40.

I have accumulated no end of mains adapters over the years thinking these might come in handy one day etc. If I match up the dc output voltage to the a95 can I use any mains adapter or must I shell out my hard won savings to canon?

Not only voltage, but current must be enough.

Find a fairly beefy one and you should be alright. Ran a Fuji camera from a generic adapter years back just fine. I think the Camera was 3.8v and the adapter 3.7v worked fine.

5V@3A is good.
