I noticed now these days, I have just been shooting with my 10-22mm, I barely use my 17-40 after I got a 10-22...... but than again, 10-22 is not as sharp as my 17-40..... what should I do ? I was thinking selling 17-40 for a 24-70L instead......

any advise?

Yup, sell it, get the 24-70L. Sounds fare more practical to me. It may not be as sharp, but oh well. Try finding a different setting that works better with the 10-22mm lens. Different settings produce different results from all lenses. Every lens has it's "sweet spot".

Plus, that much over lapping is just so unpractical. Such a waste, even more so if your not even using it! You don't have any telephoto zooms from the looks of your signature. So, 70mm I think would be useful to ya as a good walk around lens. That what everyone pretty much uses the 24-70L for. The extra f stop maybe useful to you as well. Good for indoor shots of the family and stuff.

Just my thoughts!

Oh yea, and if you sell it, let me know.... I'm looking to buy one.

10-22 and 24-70 must be a match made in heaven. But what on earth are you going to do when you need to shoot at 23mm? Now I see your quandry! :D

If you have both and don't use one, you really have decided for yourself. I wouldn't personally cart both around if I went out of the house.

Go for it – looks like you may have an easy sale too!

Tomorrow is my big day.....going to purchase the 20D with lenses.

Here's the Q.......mainly doing landscape so it's looking like the 10-22 and the 24-70L

Is this really a match made in heaven??? I will be trying out all the kit before I purchase but just want someone to say...."don't be dumb and think, just do it as you'll not regret it" :D

If you are happy with the 10-22, then sell the 17-40 and replace it with a 24-70.

The lens will go for 500-600, usually near to middle or higher end depending on condition.

If there's a chance that you'd make a move to a 1D camera, just be aware that the 10-22mm won't work on it thus creating a void for the super wide angle.

...for what its worth.

I am currently 'testing'the EF-S 10-22 on my 20D. So far, I'm really amazed. I think I'll keep it. I already have the EF 24-70L and I think it's the perfect combo!

Thought I'd add a contrarian viewpoint...

I have the 17-40, and plan some day soon to pick up the 10-22. There certainly is some overlap there... and a gap between 40 and the bottom end of a 70-200 (which is the next lens I plan to purchase). But...

The 17-40 makes a nice ultrawide lens on my film body... and will serve the same purpose if I ever make the move to a FF digital. I'm thinking of picking up a 50 prime to fill the gap mentioned above, and this focal length (especially in a 1.8 or 1.4) will make a nice portrait lens on my current 1.6 crop digital camera.

So I guess I'm saying that the 10-22 and 24-70 combo is pretty much ideal - if you plan to stay with a 1.6 crop body... but maybe less so if you want to keep your options open to move between 1.6 and FF.

Make sense?

Sell your 17-40. Then you'll end up buying it again once you've ordered a 5d.

If you will stay with 1.6, get teh 10-22/24-70 combo.

I do feel that I will have a FF camera in the next two years so I stay with 15mm, 17-40, 50 and 79-200 as pashooter mentioned.

I wound up selling my 17-40L to buy my 10-22. 17-40 is a great lens, but it just wasn't wide enough for me with the 20D.

If you're not using it let someone give it a good home and buy a 24-70

Well mine isnīt. ;) Iīm more than happy with my 17-40L.

In almost all cases 17mm is wide enough on my 10D (1.6 crop).

Someday i might go for a FF body. But since i do quite a lot wildlife shooting, i will stick to my 10D or if itīs broken by then, have a 1.6 crop camera body also.

Therefore iīm keeping my 17-40L. Itīs a fine piece of glass! :)

It all depends on your style, personally I was very excited for a while after getting the Sigma 12-24. The ultra wide perspective is addictive but to me it also gets old after a while. I find I use the 17-40 more again now that the initial fun of ultra wide has worn off. I'd rather use a fisheye now for a more distinctive look compared to just wide.
