So I have been in contact with a lesser know, swiss band. Celtic Folk/Melodic Death. Crazy combo I know and excited to see them. The band is setting up for me to shoot at the venue.

It has stage lighting but it is nothing spectacular. Old venue but definitely rocks!

I have a 40D, 17-40 f/4L, 50mm f/1.8 and 70-200 f/2.8L IS. What kind of settings will I be using? Browsing photos and this forum it looks like ISO 1600 is a must and probably can only use the 50 and the telephoto? Would it worth borrowing or renting the 17-55 2.8 IS? Or the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8?

the 70-200mm f/2.8 IS! rules... the 17-55 2.8 IS also is very practical cause of the IS...

The 50mm f/1.8 is slow to focus, hunts for contrast in low light and could cause you to miss more than you get...

IS lenses are reasonable cause of the IS... They also focus fast and yield sharp images...

what part of the Masquerade are they playing? the big room upstairs or the smaller room downstairs? there should be decent light to work w/ upstairs...downstairs definitely have a prime handy.

i shot the Scion Rock Fest there this year, and there are a lot of band galleries that you can see here (scroll down the page a bit) to check out it and get a sense.
