Has everyone done this. I just got an email from Canon about 2.0.0 firmware upgrade.
I'm always a bit leary of updating unless it solves a particular problem. I'll give it a shot....

Another question on this....must you have a flash card reader to perform the update?

Yes. You have to load the xxxx.fir file on the CF card and then put it in the camera, etc...
At least that's what the instructions say.
I was wondering myself if I couldn't copy the file to the camera via the usb connection since it shows up under xp as external storage when connected.

By the way, updating from 1.1.0 to 2.0.0 is useless. ;)

The instructions say that for good reason. That is the way to do it.

Unless you're planning on using Canon's WiFi transmitter with the 20D. ;) If not, I wouldn't bother with 2.0.0.

Of those who upgraded to 2.0.0, has anyone noticed any subtle changes in the operation of the camera ? In another forum users have reported changes in their exposures, less errors occurring, and a few other minor things. More likely it's just in their head that the "new" firmware had to change something other than the intended upgrade. Or did Canon really sneak some improvements in and didn't tell us...

I loaded the newest in some time ago and haven't noticed any changes. Since you can't update in giant leaps (1.0.0 to 2.0.0 for example) I think it is best to have the latest rev. in the camera (so you can do the next rev. easily.)

Mine is in 2.0.0 & I dont see any big difference, but then (touchwood!) I never had any lockup or err99 issues with 1.1.0. I did had some occassional freezing after chaning sigma lenses, but havent seen it since 2.0.0 upgrade.

And the REASON is?

Well apparently the REASON is that you can't copy files from the computer TO the camera. :)

Good point, but it was really quite simple to do and if there are no other changes then it can't hurt anything either and as someone said, it sets you up for the next upgrade...
Thanks guys!

Well, being in the software business, I'd put money on a few bugs being fixed in addition to the enhancement.

I'm not going to do it.
I don't need to temptation of going out to buy $1100 or however much it is worth of WI-FI equipment.

I loaded it as soon as it came out and I haven't seen any problems with it. I don't know if it does anything besides WiFi, but I wouldn't bet against it. Better to do it now, and know you're covered than to wait until the next update, which requires that it already be in place, comes out and it's nowhere to be found.
