Hi All, I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good resource book for landscape photography.

I'm not after the usual "technique-heavy" material, or post processing, more something for ideas on composition, learning how to "see" photos before pressing the shutter, making the best from natural light, using GND's to best effect, etc.

A book would be ideal, but perhaps there are free web-resources I'm unaware of as well (I've trolled around luminous landscape picking up bits and pieces, but looking for a bit more depth).

thanks,

rob

I checked this one out from my local library...
http://www.amazon.com/Seeing-Landscapes-Creative-Process-Photographs/dp/081745831X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251427731&sr=8-1

There's very little on technique - it's mostly photos with a paragraph explaining each shot.

I have a couple books from Charlie Waite that I love. No real technique as in how-to, but he explains the shot, the shoot, what is good and bad about each shot. And he often shows two variations of the same scene, and what he did to get the different (often better) look. Very good insight into the art of landscape photography, IMHO.

The two that I have are:

The Making of Landscape Photographs: A Practical Guide to the Art and Techniques
http://www.amazon.com/Making-Landscape-Photographs-Practical-Techniques/dp/1855851490/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251465441&sr=8-1

Seeing Landscapes: The Creative Process Behind Great Photographs
http://www.amazon.com/Seeing-Landscapes-Creative-Process-Photographs/dp/081745831X/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251465441&sr=8-3

I just ordered this one for $10

Landscape: The Story of 50 Favorite Photographs
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/1843401894/ref=sr_1_olp_9?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251465441&sr=8-9

And this one for $5

Edit: I just realized that I recommended the same book as Sue. Oops.

I bought a copy of "The Ultimate Guide to Digital Nature Photography" by The Mountain Trail Photo Team. Go to www.naturephotographers.net (http://www.naturephotographers.net) written by a group of photographers, co-edited by Richard Bernabe and Ian Plant. Richard just did Canon's latest Dealer Calendar. Has lots of info and even a calendar in the back on where to go at what time of year. Cotributin photogs besides the editors are Jerry Greer, Marc Adamus George Stocking, Bill Lea, Joseph Rossbach, Jim Clark, Gu Tal, and Nye Simmons. Available on Amazon also.
