Hi. My name is Craig and I'm an ... Well, that doesn't matter. What does matter is that I am researching a very important subject. I am trying to establish a correlation between being a good cook and being a creative photographer. My hypothesis is that creative people (like photographers!) are also good cooks. That is the main reason for this poll. The other reason is that I am bored.

lol wow... Hmm... I consider myself to be a pretty good cook, but I don't think I'd call myself a creative photographer. I'm lousy at that!

That's good!

I should have mentioned in my poll that being a great cook would include microwaving chicken nuggets and wrapping them in little parcels of lettuce with a splash of tomato sauce on top. Maybe garnish them with a sprig of parsley although that would be optional and just top off the wonderful dish. You could serve the little chicken nugget wraps on a tortilla -- that would be cool and yummy! I can't remember the point I was going to make :(

"good cook".... seems to be somewhat of a relative term. lol i was an ok cook prior to finding out i can't eat anything with gluten in it. now i'm no longer able to enjoy any of my fav recipes (like "brat stew", drool) that made me famous (lol).

I'm a good cook in that I can follow a recipe and know my way around a kitchen. Yet it's because I'm good at following "rules" for cooking like I'm good at following rules for photography (composition, exposure etc.). However not as much creativity flows into cooking or photography, something I'm constantly working on.

I must be! I have a fantastic set of pans!

Yes, I'm a good cook. I do the cooking, and my wife serves it. That way she can honestly tell her friends and co-workers that she serves me a delicious meal every night.

I wouldn't call myself a cook, but I like to eat what I cook. I wouldn't call myself a photogragher even though I like to look at the pictures that I've taken. I'll even go as far as to say that the pictures of food that I've taken didn't look as good as they've tasted.

Told I'm a good cook - I cater to please, and if they don't like then say so.
As for my own shots, I'd rather look at someone elses recipe thanks!

Wow, cool. Thanks for the responses so far everyone! Based on these early results it would seem that photographers are good cooks! Will need many more responses/votes before I can publish my scientific paper but so far, so good!!!!!

I guess im the opposite - i hate following recipes.

Give me a bundle of ingredients and i will have a good try at coming up with a tasty meal.

Give me a recipe and i get bored!

First rule of a good poll, dont telegraph the hoped for outcome. :)

BTW.. I answered yes. I can cook pretty good. I am an adventurous cook and try lots of new things. SOme work, some dont.

Ditto, but I don just use a grill, I have a smoker too.

My kids all refer to dinner with my hickory smoked ribs as a trip to "Famous Dad's".

My wife and I have a good working relationship. I cook and she deals with the cataclysmic aftermath. :D

EDIT:

For the record, I don't have a creative photographic bone in my body. I'm reasonably good at "action" photos, but staging/posing a shot is something I just can't wrap my brain around.

Sorry to wreck the poll.

So, you're saying you can drive a tractor, but you have trouble with cars?

Yep,,I'm a damn fine cook.. I did all the cooking for my family in Australia,, dinner parties, Christmas dinner all that kind of stuff..If I didn't cook no-one ate..

Here in Laos we have a housekeeper who is an excellent cook.. We also eat out a bit because it's so cheap, so now I rarely cook..

Back in Australia I'd watch all the cooking shows on the telly while my wife liked to watch the home renovation shows.. Does anyone see a role reversal here??

If it works in your family, go for it. I've never though that a penis was needed to change a faucet washer, nor a vagina to fry an egg.

When I went to high school (some guy named Plato was teaching), in sophomore year all girls were required to take a semester of Shop, to learn to do basic things, like fix a leaky faucet or change a car's oil, and all the boys were required to take a semester of Home Ec, again to learn how to do basic things, like (very) basic cooking, sewing on a button, or changing a diaper. I though it was a good idea then, and I still do.

As Robert Heinlein said (though his character Lazarus Long), a man should be able to build a house, deliver a baby, and cook a meal. Specialization is for insects.

Well, both are endeavors that have both mechanistic and artistic aspects, both require attention to details, and both, when done well, produce a product that is pleasing to others.

if guys can't cook in these modern times, then prepare to go hungry, eat junk food or spend money at restaurants.

I'm trained by my mum, grandma, and have held kitchen jobs for about 5.5 yrs total.

I can hold my own in the kitchen, but the only problem is, I'm so used to cooking in big kitchens, I make quite a mess, ie, use alot of prep equipment and absolutely HATE cleaning or doing the dishes after I cook

All us good cooks have awesome pans.

Just like all the good photographers here on POTN have 1Ds Mark IIIs and nothing but "L" lenses.
