It never ceases to amaze me that the objective of flash lighting seems to be to light up the human face as evenly and smoothly as possible in order to remove any possibility of 3 dimensionality.
Shadows are what create the illusion of 3-dimensionality - without them you have flat lighting and the facial contours are lost.

One should have been a hair light. Both of thier hair just falls away into the background with nothing to seperate them.

Thank you Bob for that Quality of LIght link, that made for some very interesting reading. I bookmarked it, so I can read the other articles when I have more time to absorb more knowledge.
