Hey guys, I mainly just shoot several types of things, and like moving around I.E. different angles...My scenes are usually portraits and fast moving sports. What would benefit me more, a monopod or tripod? I am looking to spend under 50 dollars for either one...
I don't have any special requirements, I would just like something to stabilize my pictures but has the ability to move the camera around smoothly/quickly (my last tripod was too stiff to move around for sports)...thanks!

I would go with a monopod for your budget. It should give you some nice support, but you may need to bust out the old tripod when longer shutter speeds are in need. What lens are you trying to hold up?

Try a benro monopod with tilt head for your needs and budget.
For support solutions, you shouldn't skimp too much, even though your gear might be super light or relatively inexpensive.
Depending on what lens you use, I would rather just handhold my setup for portraits. Sports and monopods are okay.

You need the following: monopods provide support; tripods provide stability and support. You are not going get stability and support for $50. On the other hand, you can get support at that price. Most sports shooters use monopods. With these considerations, I would suggest you look into a Manfrotto monopod.

Thanks for the replies guys! I am definitely not an experience shooter of any sort and I don't have any heavy glass to hold up (30D+70-200mm f/4L), I just wanted something to keep my horizons horizontal and my camera more stable when I focus along with the subject in sports.

Sports shooting it about capturing the action and moment. a monopod will allow you to do that. You sacrifice stability for speed and flexibility.
