??Buying off of ebay??

Do you think this safe? I found a canon sx1 but the seller had never sold on ebay before.. Has me a little worried. Should I just go to best buy or where ever and stay clear of the ebay for such a buy..

I always check ebay first. I've had over 1600 transactions and only one was bad.

I have never bough from ebay either. but you can take a look at the deal if you would like. the gear is 5 or 6 months old 800.oo I was the first to ask about it she is ready to ship as soon as I email her tomorrow. She closed the biding as soon as I email her seems really nice. But I have no clue about ebay. And this will be my first DSLR

As long as you buy it off of ebay and pay using paypal you have a certain amount of protection. Do not buy it if it is not going the the proper ebay channels or your protection fades.

I know you are excited about getting all that stuff all at once, but it is an investment of $800 and sometimes, you don't get what you expect. There is a level of protection, but I'd definitely look at the ratings for the seller and correspond with them if you need answers. I stopped using ebay about 2 years ago. I need to have all the manuals and boxes for resale myself. Buying each of those items individually will be more, just not the best kit out there unless you also buy a few photography books to walk you through using a DSLR.

I purchased my xsi off of ebay. I always look at feedback which will be hard for you... Good luck.

Everyone has to start selling/buying on ebay, so don't immediately think that someone with no feedback must be bad.

If you have a good feeling about it and you're willing to work within eBay's recommended payment methods, then you'll have a certain amount of protection.

I've been buying off Ebay for a number of years now without a single problem.. The dealers I buy through are out of Hong Kong.. I only use PayPal which is quick and safe..

My last big purchase was a 50D and battery grip but I've bought lenses, a flash and other bits and pieces..

Living in Laos, I can't just walk into a camera store, because there really aren't any.. Most US based dealers won't ship to Laos,,I don't know why..

I can order something from my Hong Kong based dealers and have it on my desk at work in 7-10 days,,the quickest I've had was 4 days..

I trust Ebay.. I have a few sellers I deal with regularly.. There are no real camera stores here in Vientiane and flying to Bangkok doesn't turn me on so I rely on Ebay for any gear..

I just ordered a Canon EF 50mm F/1.4 a few days ago..It will most likely be here in a week..
