Hey everyone. Just got my 70-200mm f/4L lens in the mail today and I LOVE IT! It's absoultely fantastic. So great, and this was my first picture taken with it. This was a bird in my back yard, little thing wouldn't stay still for the longest time, but finally he settled down and I managed to snap this at 200mm f/4 ISO 1600 and a 1/400th shutter speed. Wicked cloudy day! terrible lighting... reason for the high ISO. I was shooting in one shot AF mode.... should I have been using AI Servo for birds? Just got my 20d 4 days ago so I'm still noobie, any tips would be much apprechiated. Anyway, here it is!

Wow, great shot. The bird couldn't have landed anywhere better. The bird, flowers and leaves make the whole picture beautiful. Just like an oil painting on my wall.
Congrats on the new lens.

Nice shot. I'm jealous as I've got mine for a few weeks, but didn't get a change to use it..... Enjoy it...

Thanks everyone! I can't wait to get some more bird shots with this lens. I love this lens so much! And Leorooster, I'm sure you'll get the chance to use yours soon, and when you do post for all to see!
I can't wait because tomorrow I get to shoot my little brothers track meet with this lens. I practiced today at a lacrosse practice and did pretty well so I'm feeling pretty confident! So excited!
Thanks for all the compliments so far!

You did really well with a new camera and new lens! Those little birds are hard to capture. By all means, try AI Servo... I think you will love it for birds.

Nice composition and tone you got there. I bet you are not new to photography, only new to your new camera! (and otherwise you're a natural)

Thanks everyone once again for the comments! And Hava, I'm very new to photography. I just started getting into it about a month and a half ago when I started posting on this forum. Back then I was shooting with my Kodak EasyShare 6.1mp camera on full auto settings. Didn't get me very far, so I got my 20D and ooommmggggggggg it's amazing what I can do with this thing. I'm so excited to continue learning more and more as time goes on.

Your doing great. This is a great bird shot. Only thing that might make it better would be more contrast 'tween the bird and the background but this one is very sharp and feels warm and inviting.

I have the 70-200 f4L and I can appreciate how difficult that shot is. You must have been very near him.
You'll love that lens, but I don't think birding is a "forte" giving the reach.
Congrats on a wonderful Lens; Body & Photo!

Oh yea, I was pretty close! Shooting small birds with a 200mm reach isn't easy, but it's duable, and for the time being I guess I'll have to live with duable. :-) 100-400L is next on my list.

Hahaha, thanks gmaize! And I definately am having fun doing this! Today I was at an elementary school track meet taking photo's with my 20d and this woman from the local news paper spotted me. She offered me a potential job taking pics of sports events for them. I was like, O_O!!!! Haha, I just got this camera last week..... anyway she wants to see my recent sports shots and stuff. So, I may just get my first photography job sometime soon! I'm VERY excited! :-) Good way to pay for some new lenses. :-)

That's an excellent shot ... I love the "environmental" composition (the bird certainly chose a picturesque perch). Nice work!
