man i had to send my 1ds mark III in twice for to have the light box degreased and sensor cleaned.

and that UPS label that was supposed to be e-mailed to me in two days or less .....? well it never came so i had to call yet again to get the label.

okay that's old news...

now i'm trying to send my 1d mark III in for the final fix....and guess what?

no UPS label and when i call canon the guy who sounded like an inhabitant of uranus argued with me and says that even tho the label is late it is coming.

it's like deja vu all over again....i just know the label isn't coming because i know UPS was taken over by alien morons many years ago and my last couple of experiences with canon service leads me to believe that they've been infiltrated too :D.

Canon pays for UPS lables to ship to them.....damn, I just spent $50 shipping my 40D to them (along with my 10-22) I can say however, the camera came back to me in 3 days.

I guess they pay for your shipping if your items that needed services are within warrenty.

they pay for shipping for 1d bodies because they sold a bunch of them that were defective.

but getting the "free" mailing labels is a different story.

Has Canon service been hijacked by alien morons? No, it has not. Trust me on this. They're all nice home-grown terrestrial morons.

The "Final Fix"...? Is there one I missed or was the off-center AF point accuracy fix the last one (not counting the grease spots on the mirror fix)

the grease spot issue was resolved after two trips. one to clean the light box of excess lubricant and the other to clean the sensor, which they did not bother to clean the first time. the second time the sensor was "acceptably" clean but not as clean as it would have been if i had it cleaned locally, which is perfectly clean.

i had to call twice that time to get my UPS mailing label too. the first time i paid for shipping but they agreed to pay for it on the second trip.

after i posted this thread i called canon back and they admitted the label was taking too long so another label would purportedly be sent to me, and i should have the label by no later than monday.

canon, you see, has a third party send the label and that party is UPS, which as i have already confirmed is in the hands of alien morons :D.

oh, AFAIK, i know i don't have any issues with my mark III which i have owned going on two years but i figure i figure it's wise to get the final fix because the camera may actually track better and it may be a plus whenever i sell the camera.

BTW, i really love the 1d mark III. if it were 15 mp i wouldn't need a FF camera as long as i had the 14mm L :D.

After hearing all you guy's horror stories about Canon's service, I'm beginning to think when the time comes for me to send my camera in for repairs, I'll just suck it up and pay for shipping to Japan. Hopefully they take more pride in their work there and I'll get it done once and good.

Are Nikon's services any better? Have I made the wrong choice here?

Agreed. It's an awesome camera.

I guess I had better luck. I got one that didn't have the oil dripping problem (sounds like a Corvair, doesn't it?) and when I called to have mine sent in for the AF adjustment I had the email with the UPS label within an hour of my phone call. Are you dealing with Irvine or New Jersey?

UPS is ok until something goes astray, then it's worse than dealing with any government agency to get some sort of results or answers.

But then again I'm a bit prejudiced. My son works for FedEx. Not only do I get a discount on shipping but I have a couple good phone numbers to call if I have a problem. (No I will ***not*** share them)

my 1d mark III has never had any issues. my 1ds mark III is the one that had the oil problems.

i'm going to send both of my cameras in, tho, for the final fix and a cleaning. the last time i cleaned the sensor on the 1d mark III was before africa last year so it could stand a little spa treatment as well as getting all the various fix stuff brought up to date :D.

UPS are morons. they lost one of my packages and then punished me by making me sign for everything afterwards. they have also severly damaged several of my packages and the damage in a couple of cases looked to me like it was intentional.

i had one lens delivered and the outter box was so waterlogged it was falling apart. plus UPS is the slowest ground delivery on the planet.

i don't call them morons just to be mean. i really think the service sucks. i would much rather deal with USPS.

LOL I really dont think its all that bad, in fact morons can be found everywhere. ;)

Im NPS and havent experienced anything but excellent service from Nikon Sweden, then again i always deal with them in person and have done so for year,s so iv gotten a good relationship with them.

I think both Canon and Nikon has excellent service for their customers, especially if you compare to the rest of the manufacturer, especially Sony..wich dosent have one (not like NPS or CPS)

UPS done quite well over the years, but a year back they started to mess up... at least for me.
