Will my 20D use regular batteries? I am using the one the camera came with and I need a backup quickly !! so, do I need to go out and get another backup before a big event this weekend or can I use AA or something like that? I know it's a stupid question and it's probably in the manual but I dont have it with me.. thanks!!

Blessings

You may use AA battery if you have the battery grip.

How many pics you think you will take? My battery last for about a thousand pics (without flash).

If you have the BG-E2 battery grip you can use AA batteries in it. You must use the supplied battery pack, or equivalent in th e camera.

Thanks guys!! I'm shooting a wedding for a friend this weekend and I was concerned that the battery may go down... I do have a backup camera and battery, digital rebel... etc.... Can you use the rebel battery with the 20D ?

The Digital Rebel (NOT the new Digital Rebel XT) uses the same BP-511 / BP-511A batteries as the 20D.

Note that the battery you got with your 20D is probably a BP-511A, and the one with your Digital Rebel is a BP-511. The only difference between these two is the capacity; the BP-511A has a little bit more capacity. You can use both of them in both cameras.

By the way, the manual of your 20D and Digital Rebel tell you exactly what batteries they need.

Can you use the rebel battery with the 20D ?

Yes. As a matter of fact, I'm using a battery from the old G3.

Get another battery or two from http://sterlingtek.com - you might have time to get one if you pay for fast shipping.

I'd recommend investing in an extra battery or 2, rather than trying to rely on AA batteries. For one, they'll take more time to put into the little cartridge and put into the grip, and you could get 2 BP-511(A) batteries in there instead and they'd last MUCH longer... I highly doubt they'd die while you're shooting. Using AA batteries won't get you very many shots from what I've heard people say, anyway.

As far as extra BP-511 batteries, look on ebay or somewhere and get some of the cheaply priced ones. I don't recall the seller, but I bought several online for like $5 each plus a couple dollars shipping and handling, and 1 came with a charger as well... they work fantastically, and are not the Canon brand batteries.

If you check the manual, there are others that work. I have a spare BP514 for example which works fine with my 20D.

Just come across this thread and it reminded me to buy another BP511 type battery from sterlingtek.com

I've now got three batteries - should be enough for the Le Mans 24 hrs next month! :D

thanks guys - a timely reminder!

The battery in my 10D lasts through a wedding and reception. Now, the batteries for the flash - that is a different story. Bring plenty of batteries for your flash!
