I can't comment much but on #4, I would have liked the picture a bit more if you didn't cut out that last corner on the iPod Touch.

Thanks. I didn't notice that when I was snapping the pictures.

It's a start...

You need several things:

1. A much larger light tent/backdrop situation. What you have there will only work for very small objects.

2. More frontal and diffuse light. There just isn't enough in the shot with the pens.

3. Longer focal length. Product shots tend to have flat perspective as then the viewer does not get a false impression of the size and shape of the object.

4. More DOF. The phone picture shows much of the product blurry. It's also an awkward presentation of the phone, as it's laying on its side, half-open, and you are looking at the top half edge-on.

Overall, I think the most successful shot is #2, the 50/1.8 lens. It has the cleanest backdrop and shadows, and does not look too distorted. It would have been nicer, however, to see a version with the lens caps off, to show off the optics.

Thanks so much, wickerprints. I mentally slapped myself for not taking off the lens cap.
