I'm using a Rebel xsi and trying to import my first batch of photos into my computer via iPhoto. The only problem is that the resolution of all the photos are 72ppi by default. I am shooting in the highest JPEG setting on the camera. How can I have it import at 300ppi?

I would suggest installing the CD ROM that came with your camera. iPhoto is pretty weak. Many members here use the Canon software almost exclusively for working on their images.

Import your images via a card reader to the software that comes with the XSi (EOS utility and Image Browser). That let's you look at them individually or as a slide show. Then you can import them into iPhoto or edit them in Elements or such. iPhoto works for quick editing and is non-destructive, so your originals aren't changed. Elements lets you do a lot more editing, but requires practice. If you shoot in Raw, DPP (which also comes with the XSi) is a good place to start. As others will no doubt tell you, don't worry about 72 vs 300.

Don't worry about 72 vs 300 dpi, it's meaningless. (See, David, you were right).

I'm getting very tempted to write a little bit of software that just changes the dpi value in the exif of a batch of images to 300. Should be dead easy and very popular - at $5 a throw I may even make some money.

Hey, I could even sell a deluxe pro elite version that changes it to 1000dpi - which must be even better than 300.
