i am having a problem with my video camera does anyone know anything about or has had a similar problem with one ? i get a loud hum when recording which reflects in the playback ! other than that it appears to be functioning OK in the rest of the features !? talking to the canon company they recommended that i go to this site/forum before sending it in for repair/service.

Nice to hear they think so highly of us, but we're essentially a Canon still camera forum, not videocams. Offhand, I'd say camera noise picking up on recording in a dedicated videocam is unacceptable.

Is the hum all the time or just when the camera is focusing?

it hums all the time when the camera is turned on and operating ! i assume there is a small drive motor that is probably causing the noise which is being picked up by the mic.?? also if you shake it slightly there is small rattle which may indicate that something is loose or possibly broken inside !? as i said before Canon wanted me to consult this forum(s) before sending in for servicing as it is still under warranty ?? go figure this one out ???

Call 'em again and tell 'em we said it's broken and they need to fix it then.
