I live near La Canada, CA. The mountains of La Canada have been burning for the past 3 days, and the fire is far from being contained. I drove up the mountains for some close up shots of the fires and to capture the firefighter helicopters in action.

My hat goes off to these brave heroes.

That's a good shot. Too bad that, with the water, you couldn't get a rotor blur, too. Did you try any slower shutter speed?

Thank you very much. I was shooting with a non IS 70-300 lens and wanted to minimize the motion blur in my photos.

That is a once in a lifetime shot for most folks. Rotor blur isn't everything. Well done.

Rotor blur would have been nice but then again a soft photo wouldn't be worthy of posting most of the time. I often wonder just how difficult it must be to fly a chopper in all that smoke with what must be very unpredictable air currents / turbulence. I think it's a fitting tribute to just how many risks the different types of fire fighters put up with to do their job.

That's a fine capture. Personally, I'd back the saturation off a little but otherwise it's good documentation of Man Vs Nature.

Image #13 HERE (http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-bigpicturefire,0,5985825.htmlstory).

Sometimes the pros get the shot first and worry about the little details later...

Image #1 though is killer!
