For any of you guys that use AOL Instant Messanger, if you get an Instant Message from some one along the lines of "hey is this, (link) you?" don't click it.

To be honest I will never understand why some people would click on a link that a perfect strange sends out of the blue.
Even here among friendly people I am extremyl carefull with the links I click on.

I agree with Tommy. Once here at work, a virus got into our instant messaging environment and when one person clicked to open a file, the virus sent itself to everyone on that person's buddy list, and so on, and so on. It was a mess.

The bad part is, it only takes one naive person to click the link and then it goes through your buddy list and IMs people from your name.

Thats what this one is, I've had it sent to me several times.

I often wonder if you should only be able to own a 'locked down' PC on tehe internet until you have got a 'Internet PC Licence', in order to get this, you will be trained in basic security, something the majority of the internet population has no idea of.
Nice idea, never happen though, you do need a drivers licence to drive on the roads though.

This is why the company I work for doesn't let the average user have an instant message client, or check personal email and such. Too much chance the average user is a retard. :) They do have an inhouse IM client, but it only connects to other employees. Sure it doesn't eliminate the risk of viruses spreading, but it does reduce it and keep bandwidth free for the more important tasks (streaming www.eggradio.com).

Really? I thought we both lived in the same country?
Some basic education is a must for most PC users though, a license would be a fantastic idea.
Prehaps a letter and petition to parliment?

I pretty much understand the 'clicking the wrong link' e-mail issue. If you're on someones mailing list, that for instance regularly sends/forwards you jokes and whatnot, you soon become careless and just click the blue text without even reading the mail, it happened to me once or twice, but I caught myself doing that and now I'm just cautiously checking every forwarded mail or friend's mail with links/files out.
If you're ignorant, it doesn't really matter what the mail says, there is only one thing to do with the blue text.
Click it. It's so inviting, isn't it. It can't hurt you, you know, it's internet, just like, a web page or something, except somebody cared enough about you to send this to you, who knows, maybe it's a hot chik, right? Just click it, don't be a momo.

Sorry, I forgot. I had a timely reminder this morning as a guy over took me in dense traffic, causeing me to swerve (to avoid colision!) and ripping the side wall of my tyre on the curb, and I do live out east so often painfully aware of the lack of driving skill in that area!

There's always that other alternative: The "lickable" OS, called Mac OS X. :D
Wait, don't get a Mac, then those pesky virus creators will start aiming at Mac OS X.... keep the PC an get some powerful Anti-virus software. ;)
