... is a piece of marketing genius on Canon's part.

If the "rumors" and mock-ups are legitimate it seems Canon hit the mark.
Add IS to the already excellent lens, probably improve the optics further and likely market it for $1000-$1200 thanks to the upgraded hardware and the L pedigree. It lets them keep the 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM on the market as a "budget" lens. Brilliant.

They'll likely update the 180mm f/3.5L Macro to an IS model shortly as well and up the price on that too.

Plus even though I have a 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM (and I'm liking it more and more), I think the 15-85 IS will be a VERY interesting lens to have, in terms of compactness and focal range for a one-lens quick-n-dirty solution for many. If they offer the 7D with a 15-85IS kit lens, I'll be snatching that up.

Ditch the slow 15-85 and put the 17-55 f2.8 IS on the 7D.

Lovely.

I'm not parting with my 17-55IS, its a really special hunk of tech. But, its a bit large and and in-charge and sometimes (not always, but sometimes) it can be too conspicuous, and that means lack of access with it. The 15-85IS looks to be more compact, and hence less conspicuous and might get thru some doors the 17-55IS may not.

Yeah. Still have to wait for the actual press release, but this rumor already got me thinking about my plan to get a 135L. I think I will get the 135 anyways, but the decision will give me a headache

If I were to buy (and it's in my plans) a 100mm Macro, I would likely be buying it without IS. It would be interesting to see if the IS will be very functional while shooting macro. I kind of doubt it, but will be watching!

LR, you couldn;t figure out the 6.5FPS on the 40D, don't add to much to the 7D for you to figure out. By that I mean the IS which is a little switch on the side. :p

Still, kinda a cray price for that set though they had the 5D and 24-105 didn't they? Hm...$2500 for 7D and 17-55USM IS. Maybe $2200

The 100 macro is a sick lens, If they improve it's glass and with Is I would pay $1200 but I bet it will be more.
