Hi,I want to get some kick ass shots of my oldest boy playing inline hockey, they play outdoors, but a covered area, lighting is metal halide mixed, white (blue) and yellow and a nightmare for balance.....plus its not overly bright at all.......ceiling is white but about 9 meter high.

I do not want to shoot 1200 Iso or so.......would 2 430EXii help me out here at full power bounced of ceiling or am i wasting my time with only 2?

I will shoot with 50D and mainly use 70-200 f2.8

I do not want to shoot 1200 Iso or so...Why not?
People who fret about high ISO deprive themselves of a lot of good shots. Crank up the ISO so you can keep your shutter speed up.

The fastest shutter speed you'll get with flash is 1/250. Without flash you can go faster.

It's hard to know if bouncing flash off the ceiling is practical without actually seeing the venue. But a hockey rink is a pretty large area to try to light with the equipment you have. At best, it will give you a mixture of ambient and flash.

The strobist dvd set has a section that covers lighting a half of a basketball court with two speedlights. I think he gel'd them to match the sodium vapor lights.
