I am very interested in high speed photography, but what do you need? My 35mm camera, a Canon AE-1 Program, has a maximum shutter speed of 1/1000 sec, my digital, a Canon A-75, has a maximum of 1/2000. I would like to capture images of things like poping balloons. What all is needed for something like this, and would they work with the two cameras I have now?

Most is done with short duration flash. An auto flash can easily get down to 1/10,000 sec if it's close enough.
The toughest part is to sync the moving object with the shutter & flash. Sound triggers, IR beams, etc.

Hmmm, so I could leave the shutter open on the A-75 and just build the sound trigger and connect it to my flash. Certainly sounds like a project worth doing, now that school is out for summer, I have a lot of extra time on my hands:D
