So what's the 3rd shifter for? Is there a trans axle?
Amazing pieces of gear.

I am not 100% sure but my guess is it is either Low Range when in 4WD or you can run Low Range for the Front or Rear wheels only. Similar to an Atlas-II.

My first choice would be engages low range in 4WD.

I'd also say that's the hi-lo for the transfer case.

^Yeah. My friends had a Jeep like this. We could start it in 2nd gear and get to 60, if I recall right, in 3rd..

Didn't these jeeps have electronic shift-on-the-fly, all wheel drive transfer case with front and rear limited slip differentials for fully integrated torque management control ?

Some Jeeps have a seperate shifter for low and high range, and 4 wheel drive. So you could select to have low range 2 wheel drive if you wished to.The big one is the gear shifter. The next size is for 2 or 4 wheel drive. The third is for high range(normal driving) or low range (very slow for going over rough terrain slowly but with good engine rpm for torque.)
