hi ive just purchased an SX200, and im just wondering if cannon have any support forums as i cant seem to find them if they do.

i was hoping for a small firmware update to allow things like zoom during video etc, and maybe even a different compression opion for HD video!

does this sort of support exist? or even unofficial forums for it?

They'll sometimes offer firmware updates. Those are more common on the EOS line, but the SX1 did offer a significant upgrade to permit RAW shooting. There's also the unofficial CHDK firmware extension. But POTN's the major unofficial Canon support forum around.

yea i couldnt find another like this, so this isnt really the scene for modded firmware etc then? wish some devs from pda forums and that would take an interest in digital cameras, could be good.

things like encoding options would also be firmware based wouldnt they? or is there some hardware involved

Both of the items you question are supported by CHDK but that software is not yet available for the SX200. CHDK is a firmware add on not supported by Canon, several people on this site use it. It adds functions to the Canon Powershot cameras, see link below

how long does it take normally for a developer to bother coding one? the wiki says they have the original firmware to hand, so you can download it. just waiting on someone to do something :)
