View Full Version : WORLDWIDE PHOTO WEEK: PART 180 - Scavenger Hunt
joayne
31st of August 2009 (Mon), 10:25
Every week we select a new theme, and then go out and shoot that theme. This week the theme is "SCAVENGER HUNT". Find two of the following things in your town/city and post them up:
1. something historic
2. a candid
3. main street
4. city plaque
5. something your town/city is known for
As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for!
Here are the rules:
1. Shots need to be taken between sunrise Monday and sunset the following Sunday. Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives. Snap shots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!
2. Post your shots at any time during the week.
3. Post a maximum of two shots if you're uploading them to POTN (i.e., attaching them). You can post more than two if you're linking to shots that are not hosted by POTN (i.e.,embedding them), but keep within POTN rules. Also keep within POTN rules about size. A copy of the size rules can be found here: IMAGE POSTING RULES (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=194511)
An index to previous weeks can be found here: POTN WORLDWIDE PHOTO DAY INDEX (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=170603)
That's it! Have fun!

Wouldn't you know it, I went out early this morning (Sunday) and covered all of those listed, I'd better go out and do it again during the week, I'll try and get a different slant on them from the ones I took this morning

I agree -- excellent list.
But when I first read it I was a bit taken aback.
I misread 'city plaque' as 'city plague.'
Here's my take on 'historic.'
It's the monthly meeting of the Historical Society.
They held the meeting in a church in one of of our small towns.
The meeting's subject was the early history of the town.

I got the shots, they are in my camera, in the bag, by the front door...I took 5 kids under 10 to a water park today. I can't move that far and get the card to dowload it without pain. It will have to wait.

This memorial was for one of the Queens who lived in Soest and whent to school in Soest.
And to continue with royal family matters:
"something your town/city is known for"

So, I went out again today to tog a few of the necessary items to fulfil the Scavenger Hunt task :D
1. Something historic
Ok, I've got two for this, first one up is our 14th century church dedicated to St Mary the Virgin, this is the nave end of the church
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd273/Sundowner_album/misc/IMG_0001a150.jpg
Secondly I've togged something I think is quite rare besides being 14th century, this carved wooden templar is on a corner pillar of one of our local shops
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd273/Sundowner_album/misc/IMG_0025aBW150.jpg
2. A candid.
Here I chose one of our local market stalls, Friday being market day in town. Not the best image but it was the best I got today in the candid catagory.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd273/Sundowner_album/misc/IMG_0028150.jpg
3. Main street
Early morning strong sunlight didn't help me one bit this morning but here is Main street, Diss, otherwise called Mere Street
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd273/Sundowner_album/misc/IMG_0023150.jpg
4. City plaque
I walked straight past this and totally forgot to point the camera at it
5. Something your town/city is known for
According to wikipedia, Diss Mere (local lingo for lake) is one of the deepest natural lakes in England at a depth in excess of 70 ft, no exact measurements have been recorded because of a mud layer at the bottom. The lake surface is around 6 acres. We get visitors from the four corners coming to see the mere

I know how you fel, I've been fairly busy all week
If I get the chance and the weather dries up a bit, it has been raining since lunchtime, yet it was beautiful when I took those shots at around 9am, I will go and get a couple of shots of our town sign, it is quite pretty :)

Just got back from lunch... with my camera... I took some photos that I think will apply!! Yippee!
I SO missed out on a candid though. :( My friend and I happened upon a youngish looking woman, wearing a tank top and only had one boob. It was sad, odd and amusing all at once.

I've always wanted to contribute to this but my days off are awkward (Sunday/Monday) and not normally have time to post. My friend's aunt visited town so we toured her and got some shots to share. :)
I didn't really have the list for the scavenger photo hunt. These are more "Hey that's interesting" shots LOL.
The best thing about DC is that it's full of historic sites, it's almost unfair LOL!

My "Main Street" shot.

I did a lot of street candids that day with my 50mm and shooting from the hip. I lack the practice so a lot of the shots came out of frame and what not. This one came out nice. :)

I've seen other statues with noses polished by touching. Maybe people do it for luck?

Here are two more finds.
A candid -- Civil War reenactor.

Here is something that brings fame to the town.
It's the house where Abraham Lincoln stayed when he visited Gettysburg to participate in the dedication ceremonies for the Soldiers' National Cemetery in 1863.

Sorry for the triple post.....rushing to get the pictures in on time and having to deal with the computer shuting down on me everytime i use Photoshop.
Took about 12 to 15 shoots and keeping with the posting rules i figured i would put of these two or both something Historic and something this town is known for.
Some of the other shot came out pretty good, so i may create a Flicker to upload them to so i can share with everyone.

Love these scavenger hunts.
St Laurent Boulevard in Montreal is known as "The Main". This shot was taken at the start of "Little Italy" Saturday morning. Dodging traffic was the fun part.

This plaque commemerates the Historical importance of "The Main"

Montreal has so many things it is famous for. One is the Jean Talon Market.
A sample of the many fruits and vegetables available there.
