Camera Raw for CS2!?

Just got Photoshop CS2 and I'm getting incredibly frustrated with it - I can't open my RAW (i.e. CR2) files, all I get is 'Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document'! :mad:

I have an EOS 450D (Rebel Xti?) incase it's of any use...

I've tried downloading the Camera Raw plug-in, but to be completely honest I have no idea where to put the file, there's so many different 'Plug-Ins' and 'File Formats' folders it's driving me insane. Even if I did manage to install it properly, I have no idea how on earth to use it, or any plug-ins for that matter, I'm a newbie to PS...

Any help would be very much appreciated, I'm getting really hacked off at this damn PC! Lol... :rolleyes:

is where the raw converter resides. Make sure to rename or move the old one before adding the new one, just in case.

CS2 ARC does not support the 450D. The latest Camera Raw is 3.7 for CS2. If you look at the readme, it lists support up to the 400D. CS2 does not support any of the 14bit cameras.

To use CS2 and ARC you have to convert your pic to .dng first. It will then open using ARC.

How do I go about doing that then? I have no idea what ARC is and I haven't heard of .dng before, so yeah, lol, if you could help out I'd really appreciate it! :)

ARC is Adobe Raw Converter. It is the program that is launched when you try to open a raw file using Photoshop.

The easiest way to convert your pics to .dng files is to use DPP that camer with the camera. You can simple just convert and save ot you can use DPP to do some raw editing before shipping to Photoshop. There are other converters as well but I haven't used them so I'll leave it to others to comment.

Download the latest DNG converter and convert to DNG. Or use DPP. (Better results then ACR 3.7 IMO)

Even if it did, would a .dng file be as versatile as a .RAW file? I can convert the .CR2 files into TIFs if I want to and use them that way, but the whole point is that I'm using the RAWs... I've got all the programs that came on a disc with my camera, but all I can seem to do with them is convert the .CR2s into .jpgs or .tifs...

What's DPP, and where do I download it? :confused:

DPP is Digital Photo Professional. It's the raw editor that Canon supplies. It's on the software disk that came with your camera.

I also believe that all of the adjustments available editing a raw file are also available editing a .dng file.

DPP came with your camera on CD. If it didn't go here (http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/article_pages/install_canon_software.html)

ACR doesn't come up because the CR2 of your camera "s not the right kind of document".
DNG will let you do exactly the same in ACR then a CR2 would (if it could be read that is ;)).
