This lense is super tight. I have used a few different lenses all Canon brand on my camera and have not had any trouble until I got this new lense in the mail yesterday.

I thought maybe it wasn't going to fit but being a guy, I just twisted a little harder and it went on. It was so snugg, I thought that it wasn't going to go on when "click" it clicked on. I turned on the camera and it seems to work fine but it's just super hard to get on.

My question to you guys is this: Is this a common problem with Canon lenses?

Is it just this particular lense that fits tight?

Will it cause any permanent damage?

Is there such a thing as breaking in a lense?

Thanks for your feedback.

It shouldn't be that tight but probably hasn't done any damage.
No,lens mounts don't have to bed in at all,They are made to the right tolerances then hard coated to stay that way.
I'd send it back:(

My new 50mm F1.4 takes a little more force to get onto my 20D, I think it just matches the camera better. The 70-200 F2.8 IS is similar, it has a rubber gasket which is used for weather sealing, that makes turning the lens more difficult but still not hard. All the rest go on with no effort at all. Unless you think it's going to break, or is taking excessive force, i'd live with it.

That's a good question.

I watched a guy really crank hard to put his lens on his camera. Unfortunately, he did not have it on straight, and he was actually bending parts that should not have been bent. Then the lens didn't work so good, so he tried to take it off. It was very difficult to get off, and he had done some damage.

Some people put the lens onto the camera. Instead, I put my camera onto the lens.

Thanks for the reply guys. I did a little more research and I think I can live with it. I doesn't bother me as much as it did when I first opened it. It's almost like it got a little easier I think that I got used to it.
