Thanks! It was a quick grab shot as we were leaving and played around with it in elements. Here is the original

a definite improvement with the blur. Great, great lighting. I'm guessing the sun coming through trees? Which fair is this? I'd love to catch one soon. One more thing, I like the little wing in the original. did you mean to blur it out?

This was taken at the Bristol Wisconsin Rennassiance faire last summer. I did intentionaly blur the wing out because I did not think to clone it and add it to the other shoulder for balance!

cloning it would be a great touch.

WOW! I like everything about this from the comp you chose, the DOF, and the light was superb.
Doesn't hurt that She's a "CUTE" Fairy to boot. ;) :D

Fantastic shot, I just want to keep looking at it as if something's going to happen, a very well captured moment......and her fairy skin colours look great......was she a good fairy or a naughty fairy?

That's a cool image. Would you mind explaining how you blurred the background, please?

Thanks.

I used Photoshop Elements to blur the background. I used the polygonal lasso tool and then carefully traced around the edges of the girl, feathering the selection by one or two pixels. I did it in small sections, and then used Guasson Blur in each selection. I finished it off by blending all my selections together using the blur brush.

If I had to do it again I would have created a new layer, blurred the whole image to the desired effect, and then gone in with an eraser over the girl, which would erase the top, blurred portion and reveale the girl in focus in the layer below.

As for Roger's question about her being a good fairy or a bad fairy; This young lady was definately a good fairy. About five weeks later there was another girl in the same makeup who was definately playing it "naughty"! Maybe I can find some of those pictures and post them as well.
