I'm thinking of doing a timelapse of my city's downtown tonight.
I want to shoot in M on the same settings, but I want to do it from 30 minutes before sunset or so to 30 minutes after sunset. I'm thinking of doing a 30 second short of 24fps, so 720 frames, aka a frame every 5 seconds.

Would I better just using P, or should I change my M mode halfway through to accommodate the darkness after sunset?

Any help appreciated.

Actually I wouldn’t mind an answer to this. How would you go about adjusting exposure from light to dark? Every tutorial I have read says shoot in manual, not adjusting any settings. Would you have to do it as two pieces and stitch them together each piece with different exposure settings?

Would I better just using P, or should I change my M mode halfway through to accommodate the darkness after sunset? No, stay away from any auto mode. If you want it to look "normal", then you want it to go from daylight to night, right? So set the exposure on M & then leave it until you see that you have to increase the exposure after dark.
