If things go right in the next few months, I hope to purchase a Digital Rebel XT 350D). I am a professional web designer/graphic artist and have recently been bitten by the photography bug. It's so amazingly intriguing. I hope to learn the art and take it up professionally to augment my current career path (i.e. portraits, people, products, etc). It seems logical. I have never done any type of photography before so be easy on the critique. I don't have my XT yet, so i'm passing the time with my P.O.S. vivitar clearance special. 2MP i think. I can't get decent pictures out of it. I bought it for $150 off the net a couple of years ago.

Anyway, I figured I could at least start developing some sense of image composition and lighting. I have to start somewhere.

This shot was of a Sig P229 Two Tone .357 sig pistol and magazine. I photographed it on an inn table in my living room and used a flexible three bulb lamp for light. The camera was rested on the edge of the table (only way i could get a decen picture.) No flash, of course.

What do you think...(be nice please lol).

The first is the orig from the camera and the second is processed in photoshop (neatimage, and levels).

Thanks in advance.

Way too much empty forground IMHO. Try cropping most of it out. Makes the shot much more powerful.

You do seem to be getting the hang of photoshop though.

I don't think the second is all that bad.

Thanks for your Comments.

Here's a closer crop. I edited out the "blump" in the wall and cleaned up the table a bit. I like the result. Good advice.

Nice sharp shot (no pun intended). I'd like to see another showing more of the gun's side. Maybe you can elevate the camera a bit.
