Hi,
Does anyone know if there is any version of Zoombrowser that supports Linux and where I'd be able to download it? Otherwise, I'd appreciate any suggestions on software I can install onto a system that only runs Linux and would allow me to transfer images from my Rebel XT onto the hard drive of my computer (Dell Inspiron 7000). Thanks.

I haven't tried connecting it through USB yet. But, you can use a CF card reader which will read it. Then you can use dcraw to work with RAW photos.

I posted a Perl script to these forums some time ago that will download raw files from a CF card reader which can be found here http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=29085 and this script will put files into directories named by the date the file was captured.
It was written for my 300d at the time, so it would probably need some small changes to work properly. I'm using Windows again now, so you'd be on your own with it I'm afraid.
Bibble (www.bibblelabs.com) is probably the best solution for RAW conversion in Linux.

If you use Gnome, you can try gthumb (http://gthumb.sourceforge.net/). It's available, I believe, on most distros. It's the one I use (I use Debian and Ubuntu).

Not sure what distro your using, you can find RPM's of Digikam, or apt get in debian based for Digikam.
http://digikam.sourceforge.net/Digikam-SPIP/
I just switched to ubuntu, and latest version of Digikam and it's plugins can be had adding this to your repositories.
deb http://www.mpe.mpg.de/~ach/kubuntu/hoary (http://www.mpe.mpg.de/%7Each/kubuntu/hoary) ./
and when I had Mandrake, best place to get it was -
http://www.nzlinux.orcon.net.nz/digikam.html
Digikam support many many cameras, somewhere on the site is a list. My card reader also works with it.
Some really nice plugins too. I think you'll be impressed with this app.
I made my little web/picture page with Digikam in 4-5 clicks - http://www3.sympatico.ca/vad3r/
Resized, jpeg compression, and ready to upload web page in minutes.
edit: btw, while it's a KDE app, it will work fine in gnome, I use it in both.

hi european swallow and paul_b,
i just bought a canon eos 350d(Digital Rebel XT) and am trying to get it to work with digikam. so far i have unsuccessful.
digikam refuses to see my camera when it is connected to the usb port. i tried switching the camera off and then back on. no avail.
gphoto2 --listports gets me
devices found: 11
Path Description
--------------------------------------------------------------
serial:/dev/tts/0 Serial Port 0
serial:/dev/tts/1 Serial Port 1
serial:/dev/tts/2 Serial Port 2
usb: Universal Serial Bus
usb:005,007 Universal Serial Bus
usb:004,002 Universal Serial Bus
gphoto2 --auto-detect gives me the following:
Model Port
----------------------------------------------------------
hotpluggingworks on my system (running mandriva le2005, kernel 2.6.11, digikam 0.7.2, gphoto2 1.1.5)
cat /proc/sys/kernel/hotplug reveals /sbin/udevsend
what do i need to look for. the digikam that came with mandriva only has eos 300d in the list of cameras.
sorry for the long post. thanks
