Hi everyone. I am working on getting a photography club set up at my college. It is a pretty daunting task as there's no set way to do it.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas how I could see what students are interested in photography, and how I could potentially get students interested enough to join the club. Ideas for club events and discussions would be appreciated as well. There is no target age or skill group (the school has teenagers to 60+ year old students). I would love to get people using cheap P&S's all the way to Full Frame SLR's if possible. I'm currently in the process of talking to student services and some teachers about what I can do too.

I know I'm asking a lot, but I'm currently all on my own and need quite a bit of help to get the ball rolling.

Thanks a ton to anyone who can help!

I was in a club at the local OPC (old people center) that had an assortment of skills and cameras and it effing drove me crazy.
They buy cameras and don't read the manual, refuse to learn to use the damn things and expect someone else to hold their hands.

I lasted 2 months before I quit...it was that or bury them in the backyard, that would have been tacky at best.

Yikes... I hope I have better luck. It doesn't seem anyone has any ideas for me... oh well.

I hope the photography teacher at school responds soon. I want to get the group together within the next month.

Go out shooting around campus and if others see you tell them about it. Then go out together and when others ask what you guys are doing, tell them about the photo club.
It grows from there.

Go out shooting around campus and if others see you tell them about it. Put on your "Nifty Two-Fifty" & shoot your sexiest GF? You will get questions! ;)

Does your school have a photography program? If it does, go to the teacher and see what they have to say about it...

Yeah that's the problem, we only have like 2 photography classes. They are both pretty introductory ones. I contacted one of the instructors and am still waiting for a response...

Is there a website for the school with a news or announcements section? Or a newspaper? How about a Craigs List ad? Find out how people share information at the school and copy the method for your photography club.

Facebook?

Good idea, but I'm not into those social networking sites... forums are about as social as I get.

Facebook really would work well for this. Especially if you are friends with most of your peers.

Most schools have a student body group of some sort on facebook- if that's true send a message to one of the admins and ask if they can send out a message to everyone. They'll usually be more than willing.
