Last Sunday I attended a VARA meet at Buttonwillo raceway. It was my first real attempt at motorsports photography. The track is not photography friendly. There are few places to shoot from and you have to shoot into the sun a lot of the time. The track is on a large alkalai flat so there is much bright white reflective backround and sparse-at-best vegetation.
I spoke with the VARA magazine photographer (Canon Elan) and he also complained about the photography situation. He advissed that it was possible to get to other parts of the track but once there you were marooned in the middle of nowhere.
I made the best of what was offered. Most of the drivers appeared to be having about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on.
Featured were pre WWII and English cars.
Here are some of my farvorites.

Wow, it looks like you had some really horrible light to deal with! When it comes down to it there's very little you can do about that if you are not able to change angle.
You've caught the action well despite the difficulties. There's some good car dynamics there. The shutter speed is about right to show motion and you've avoided the obvious trap of "parked cars on the circuit" that so many new motorsport shooters fall into.
Photogenic cars too, I like them! :D

As Cadwell has said you have made the best of a bad situation and good first attempt, that first photo, car No 17 looks like it would be a wild ride ;)
Cheers

Skip, I really like the series. They have a look and feel about them that suits the subject.

Thanks for the support, guys. I would really have preferred them to be running the other way around the track, then I would have seen them coming in the corner, rather than going.
I would also have given big money for a shade tree. I walked all the accessable parts of the track trying for different angles but this was the best I could find.
Any suggestions to increase clarity would be appreciated.
I shot this with my Tamron and no filter. I hope to replace the Tamron in a few months so I don't want to wastethe $$ on a filter I will not be able to use.
Thanks again for looking and commenting.
Here are two more that I liked rather well. Especially the immaculate Allard.

Nice shots.
Just what type of car is that is the second photo?. certainly is unusual.

That is a Morgan, V-twin powered three wheeler. It was really neet to see one being actively, albeit carefully, raced.
Here it is in the paddock.
