I have recently taken my very first sports photo and am trying to post it to this forum. I have resized the picture to be within the permitted 1024 x 1024 but when I tried to attach it to my post a message came up that said my picture was 291.8KB and exceeds the allowed 150kb. Can anyone please tell me how I can get the picture within the limits. Many thanks.

Ive never managed to attach a photo yet , I find it a lot easier to use one of the photo hosting sites like zenfolio and link from there , that way its very easy
Hope this helps

easiest way if you're using Photoshop is to do a Save for Web and set the quality to 60 (High). That will probably do it, if not, resize it to 800x or something similar.

Hello troutfisher and polarbare, thank you both for your replies. I will have a look at zenfolio but in the meantime I have followed polarbare's advice and it has worked, many thanks for this. I have now managed to submit my post and the photo is attached, thanks again.

If you have Photoshop I would suggest not using the Save For Web option and instead do the following.
Open your file.
Then select 'Image' then 'Image Size'. Change the resolution to 72 pixels/inch then change the longest dimension to 800 pixels. Change the resolution first. 800 pixels is plenty big for posting here and will let you save at a bit higher quality than what you can at 1024 pixels.
Then select 'File' then 'Save As' and name your file whatever you want. The next screen that will display will let you change the image quality. Drag the slider to the left and you will see the size on the right change. Reduce the quality until the file size is 150K or less.
I generally end up at a quality level of 7-10 depending on the image.
I like this much better because you can maximize the quality as well as know the first time that you are within the limits of this forum.

Agreed. Besides, using the "Save As" option won't strip EXIF date from your image like "Save for the web" will. If you save it as a 8-9 quality JPG, you should be fine.

Hello Kevin, Thank you for your guidance, sounds brilliant. I'm going to print it off and keep it handy until I can remember the steps off by heart. Regards, Geoff
