Ok...just part tongue and cheek here and part 'not-getting-it' on my part, admittedly. But do people just feel an inner urge to have the newest device on the market, even before it's officially announced? (or barely released)
I'm sure I'm just ignorant on the matter, and I certainly don't have money to burn everytime there is a new release to go purchase the newest toy and sell off my older stuff. But I'm always amazed how quickly people are wanting to sell of their gear, that I haven't even worked up to, to go buy something even newer.
Must be my age or something, old school, I don't know...I'm still having a blast trying to wear out my two 30D's and one 5D. And if/when my 30D gives up the ghost, I'll probably splurge and get the MkIII since I shoot so much sports action.
I'm not trying to irritate anyone- I guess I just don't get it though - what is it that people are trying to obtain with the newest device out there?
But I've made up my mind to pass on the 7D cause you know a 9D is not far off and will surely kick the a## of both 7 & 8D's. ;-)

I kinda feel the same way about my 40D... it's going to be in my hands until one of us dies... but the specs on the new body do excite me, enough that I am considering it at some point afterxmas (gives it enough time for review, firmware updates, etc..).
But to figure out the real cost for me to upgrade, I have to consider the new batteries, CS4 (because CS3 won't do those RAW files) etc...

To the OP: You are making a lot of assumptions here. You do not know the specific situations of the people who are deciding to go with the 7D. Each one is probably a bit different. Don't just assume that everyone who wants and/or orders a 7D is just "jumping on the bandwagon." Canon have a great reputation and the specs on the new camera look really good. Based on other cameras being in short supply, most people likely just want to "get in line" while they can. I wouldn't stress over it too much. Personally, I get vicarious pleasure at others' excitement. If I didn't have my 5DII I would be seriously considering the 7D. To make a long story short, I guess I have to wonder why some people find it necessary to rain on other people's parades?! :p:rolleyes:

Welcome to the wonderful world of "Instant Gratification."
Gotta have it NEW and gotta have it NOW.
Besides, don't you know that only the latest and greates gear is capable of capturing quality images?

I upgrade only when what I am currently using is no longer doing what I need it to. I have no qualms about spending money, just about spending money I do not need to. Luckily I do not have a macro so I -->need (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=155&modelid=19091#SNAModelSuppliesAct)<-- one.

To the OP: dont you realise that only the latest body and lenses can capture images?
Its part of Canons firmware to disable all previous camera models so that everyone must but the new one!
PS this is entirely tongue in cheek just in case someone thinks im serious!

My 5D was the best camera ever. I loved everything about it until the 5DII came along. Now the af is too slow and, well, it's just useless. ( I joke).
Seriously, Gearheads are everywhere. My friend spends most of his time tuning, retuning, buying new parts for and fitting them to his BMW. He never seems to drive the thing!! Another guy I know spends more time taking his guitar apart, cleaning it, readjusting the action and the intonation than he does playing it. He thinks this will make him a better player. It might help, sure, but he is avoiding the real issue. His guitar, like our camera, is only a tool to express yourself with. The moment that it becomes more important than the images you are trying to create you might as well stop using it and stay home admiring it. Some people get off on that sort of thing. Each to their own. I've only met a few artists/pros. None of them were particularly concerned with having the latest gear. I've met lots of gearheads. Very few of them were particularly concerned with their art.
