I just recently bought a G10 and when trying to upload, my computer doesn't pick up the camera. I already have EOS Utility installed on my computer and figured I could just plug it in and upload. I tried installing it again from the disk that came with the camera but still nothing.
Does anyone know if you can just have the same EOS Utility to upload from both the 40d and G10?

I have the same issue and would also appreciate any feedback on this. If there's a way we can use zoombrowser to transfer the files. Mine does not work either. And intead a different Canon utility runs for the G10 and D10. Transfer rate is very slow -I'm using Ulta II cards (software name escapes me at the moment but I installed it from the D10 driver/software disc). I do not have an SDHC card reader :) (I will buy one soon! )

Yeah, I wasn't trying to be rude... I just always look for the simplest answer first.

Did you install any drivers that came with the camera, you might need to tell you computer what it is that was just plugged in.
Can you use a card reader instead?

Yeah I installed the cd that came with it but still nothing. I really want to avoid a card reader because i would much rather just plug it in the camera and go.

Are you shooting in RAW and if so do you need an update on ACR? There is an update on firmware on the Canon site but that was a while ago. Do you know if you have it?

Hello
Does, at least, Windows recognizes or ever recognized your new camera?
Can you see it in the disks list in Window Explorer?

Get a card reader. It is a whole lot faster and you hardly ever have any problems. If you are reading from the camera you are just wasting battery power.

There are benefits from loading from the camera too though. I think most SD card failures are do taking the card in and out causing stress on the internals. I prefer using the USB and handling the card as little as possible.

You need to install the utility (not the whole suite with stuff like DPP etc) cause the EOS utility does not work for G10 and the G10 utility does not work for EOS. Not sure why just the way canon made it.

Install "Camerawindow" from the G10 disk or download it. That's what you need to download from the G10 directly.

I've never had any problems using card readers.. I take my cards in and out all the time and been doing that for years..
So you don't change cards?? What if your cards are full?? Either you don't shoot enough, you don't shoot in RAW or you use the largest capacity cards known to man..
Most download failures are due to people connecting their camera to their computer..
